BOOMERANG TRAINING FOR MANAGERS
Some of the key challenges that organisations are facing include: creating a family-friendly culture and supporting the individual returning to work. Boomerang delivers a variety of interactive seminars and workshops for line managers, HR practitioners and groups of individual women returners.
Creating a Family-Friendly Culture
It is important for managers to have a good understanding of how the web of legislation operates so that they can effectively manage the business whilst respecting legal obligations and creating an environment in line with the culture of the organisation. This one day interactive workshop includes an overview of legal risks and focuses on developing awareness around the key issues, to assist line managers in dealing competently with women returners including:
- Understanding the legal rights of employees with family responsibilities
- Managing employee expectations and planning for continuity
- The role of the line manager in managing women returners
Diversity Training
Through our experience of working in organisations we have discovered that it is still too commonplace for women to experience direct and indirect discrimination both during pregnancy and after returning to work. The BBC News in 2008 reported that women with young children face more discrimination in the workplace than disabled people or those from ethnic minorities. Managers are often unaware of Diversity issues and Equal Opportunities for women in practice. This workshop covers Diversity issues with a focus on the history and trends in the value of women in society, helping managers to gain understanding of the needs of women in organisations and includes:
- Exploring prejudice, stereotyping and the discrimination of women
- Gaining an awareness of key and current legislation
- Embracing diversity in practice
